This week in games: Sonic loses his teeth, John Carmack steps back from Oculus
Most of this week, the news about Microsoft X019 came event on Thursday. We saw our first real Age of Empires IV trailer, a new Obsidian game, new Wasteland 3 trailer and a bunch more, so if you already read through that summary? Better to it.
But there were still some bits and pieces around the edges, including deep dives in Crusader Kings III Diablo IV, a handful of launch Trailer and a redesign for the infamous Sonic the Hedgehog Film. She took his human teeth, and for that we can all be grateful.
This is gaming news for November 11 to 15 years.
Don ‘ T shoot The Messenger
First, the promotional gifts. It is a rare game of the week for epic to grasp how you are able to, throwback platformer The Messenger from now to next Thursday. And another game of the week, the small Viking warfare Bad North to come waiting in the pole position. Funny that there is always a single game now feels a bit of a disappointment after almost six months of the two-game give-aways, but hey, you are free. Enjoy it while it lasts. Fill that Epic Games Store-library.
Crusader Kings III
Crusader Kings III path is probably at least a year-ish, but the Paradox is already in the process of weekly developer diaries. every week! Here 2000 words about the conduct of the war. And here is a long post about the map. Can you, uh, have really invested in it.
But if that sounds like too much, it looks like a Paradox, the distillation will read some of these posts in the form of video as well, starting with Game Director Henrik Fåhraeus put his “vision” for the Crusader Kings III. Less information, perhaps, but it is much easier to digest.
Diablo IV is a long way from release, but Blizzard is already diving deeply (via Game Informer) in the different classes. The barbarians and sorceress are already in the archive, but I’m damn interested in displayed in the third and last class, the moment, the druid and his lil’ wolf, buddy. Can I have a pet wolf? Because if not, Diablo IV‘s died for me.
The Witcher 2
I’m not convinced yet from what I’ve seen of Netflix, the Witcher adaptation, but apparently someone likes it. To see In the first season, once the light until the end of December, but Netflix has already renewed for a second season. Good news for Henry Cavill wig collection, although I’m still mourning the American Vandal and all of the other respects, shows, Netflix, short-hand-2019 cancelled. Hard to believe that The Witcher got a second season in this early given how many axes fell this year.
After a half-dozen video-game-cameos in this year, Terminator‘s finally own the game. With the title Terminator: Resistance, it does not appear on the current Sincerk’s fate film. Instead, it is a first-person shooter, in the post-judgment day war against the machines. It is also made by the same developer the terrible Rambo tie-in game though the Steam reviews for resistance seem to be surprisingly positive. I don’t know what to think. Here’s a launch trailer.
AI: Artificial Intelligence
would change in the rule C-suite executives of the items fall not on our radar, but if it Doom co-creator and legendary programmer John Carmack? It is well worth to be mentioned. After six years as Oculus CTO weathering, a Zenimax lawsuit and a Facebook acquisition, Carmack is officially a step back into a “consulting CTO” position. With Nate Mitchell all the people I connect with Oculus pre departure earlier this year, Facebook are now gone. Times, they are a-changin’.
As for what he’ll do next? Carmack ‘ s Facebook-announcement says he is experimenting with artificial intelligence. “I think it is possible, enormously valuable, and I have a non-negligible chance of a difference it makes,” wrote Carmack, and adds: “sometimes I have wondered how I would fare with a problem where the solution is not really in sight. I decided that I should try it, before I’m too old for this.”
I wonder what that means for Carmack’s annual Oculus Connect keynote. Is that a part of his consulting position? We will see.
Black Desert Online developer Pearl Abyss revealed a trio of new games this week, and I have my eyes on 8 Described by Kotaku as a MMO shooter, it looks like part of Titanfall, a part of The wave), and ten parts badass. Black Desert Online has a reputation as a hellish grind, which means that I can reveal, probably not the love of 8 —but I should, , after this.
Shenmue III releases of the next week. Can you believe it? I can’t believe it. After eight to ten years and a crowdfunding campaign I’m still not quite comfortable with the fans finally have a sequel. Whether it’s a sequel, worth the wait, well, we will know soon. There’s a launch trailer below, although if you want a last look before it arrives.
Lose, Human head,
Perhaps the strangest news story of this week is the Human head, the just Rune II…literally on Tuesday. And then the studio closed for a day, it was announced later. That would be a pretty wild story, and, apparently, was just as a great surprise to the publisher of Ragnarok and like all the others.
But it gets weirder, believe it or not. Paired with a Human head with the death notice was a further announcement, revealing that most of the talent had signed up to the form of a new studio (Roundhouse Studios, but we don’t call it simple-Human-head) under the Bethesda banner. To harassment not only is that a bizarre bit of business, but some of you may remember that around 2011 or so Bethesda supposedly trying to starve to death, to force a Human head, , acquisition. Human head, waited for the business, Bethesda aborted, the drive appears to be-almost-finished – Prey 2, and the Human head spent the whole next generation console. Somewhere in there, The Quiet Man ” ‘ve made. And now, a Human head is no more.
Bethesda won in the end, I think. Good luck to all at the Roundhouse.
Finally, the Sonic the Hedgehog redesign. Listen, it is objectively a major improvement. Sonic looks like Sonic, complete with puffy white gloves, and oversized eyes. They even ditched the human teeth, perhaps the eeriest part of the original trailer. Crisis averted.
But maybe I wanted to see, a car-crash, you know? Again, the lens is a major improvement. My own interest in the film has broke, though. human-teeth Sonic looked like a fun disaster a la the Super Mario Brosfilm. Now it just looks like another mediocre cash-in on an established mascot. Have fun all. I’ll wait here for cats.
