Motorola Razr vs. Galaxy fold: the Biggest letdowns and the best killer features so far – CNET
The Galaxy-compartment, on the left, and the Motorola Razr are foldable mobile phones with little in common.
Angela Long/CNET
the beginning of this week, I suggested that the Motorola Razr could be a folding mobile phone, for the rest of us. At the $1,500, it’s certainly not cheap, and I am not in favour of all run out and buy. Dec. 26 start when the pre-orders. But compared to the $1,980 Samsung Galaxy fold, the Razr is swinging a much lighter device, and it looks sharper and to boot phone similar. So, while I have the Razr-design compelling and natural search to use, lots of options, which is the folding of the Galaxy is the better upgrade.
For 500 $more (and remember, this is still an eye-watering $2,000, we are talking about here for the Galaxy drawer) you get more of everything-six cameras, compared to two*, 75% more battery capacity and useful extras such as wireless charging.
stacked to The Razr and wrinkles, with trade-offs when it comes to features and design, and we are here to compare, at the beginning of UPS and downs. I say “formerly” because the Razr-review-units are still to come, and along with our usual series of laboratory tests and observations from the life of the instrument on a daily basis.
Until then, here is how to compare the wrinkles and Razr foldable screens and specifications.
*you don’t have the time-of-flight (ToF) sensor that is used to help with low-light shooting and can not be used alone to take photos.
Motorola Razr-a design feels more practical and thought out
If you want your phone to look like a phone, then the Razr-vertical flip design, more for you, in comparison to the folds, which opens like a book.
The Razr is a smaller, narrower screen (6.2 inch against wrinkles is 7.3-inch display) is not about to give you a tablet and phone in one. It’s about to slide a really portable device for people who want something smaller in the pocket. That is, the folds are plug-in cards in their own way, are stacked in a slim, high phone sandwich.
What impressed me most about the Razr how all of your elements make sense. His cameras, panels, and buttons fall precisely where they should be, in contrast to the Galaxy fold, which has a thick plastic bezel and a bulbous score, which takes up a large part of the screen.
The Galaxy folds big ole notch is difficult.

Motorola wins the screen front pleat
If the thing of a crumpled plastic of the screen makes you cringe, you are out of luck. It is that which is made of soft plastic, and there is no way around that for now. is But you will be glad to know that the choice to turn the Razr vertically, Motorola has a short horizontally has to fold. It is only as wide as the Razr itself is 2.8 inches compared to the wrinkles, in the vertically crease of 6.3 inches.
Yes, you can still see and feel it, if you try hard enough, but it is much less noticeable on the Razr than on the fold, which has a larger crease where the two halves of the closed bend.
Motorola and Samsung have a built-in steel plates behind their fragile displays for structure and support. Motorola also claims that his hard layer is made of plastic on the top side of the electronic elements, which is stronger than the Fold.

in comparison to the Galaxy-crease of the high and Central fold, the seam, the Razr screen is itty bitty.

you can do more on the Galaxy the smallest screen
wrinkles I never thought I would appreciate, the compartment is tight with a 4.6-inch external screen, until I have the Razr-2.7-inch met-external-display.
The Razr’s tiny screen will make actually no sense, because it is its purpose mainly to display notifications, together with the signal and battery status. But you can open any Android app on the crimp of the outer screen and launch it on the inside, which makes it more useful, if you closed the door while on the go. I just wish the input is not a nightmare.
On the other hand, has Motorola the Razr the external screen functions, a number of functions, including taking a self-portrait; the implementation of a video-call or a call using the speakerphone, or Bluetooth connection; and finally, listening to music, that you have begun on the larger screen of the first.

The 4.6-inch display is not ideal for typing, but at least you can open any Android app while you’re on the go.

Razr-hinges and hinged display is not out of the danger zone
Peer closely at the Motorola Razr and you’ll see that some of the physical elements to raise questions and concerns. Its hinge design is characterized, but the gears are partially exposed to the outside and inside of the phone, which makes me wonder, how easy crumbs, paper, and fibers could clog the gears.
There is also a narrow channel, about the thickness of my finger-nail, separates the display area of the aperture. I saw to collect dust along the top, but my main concern is how easy it can be to separate the upper casing from the plastic-OLED-she’s trying to protect.
Samsung ran into some trouble with this same area, if the early reviewers are peeled off, a protective cover layer, the optional dust-guard, which you would find on many mobile phones. The removal of this layer irreparably damaged the phone. Dust could very well be the worst of the Razr-problems here, but the Flaps in this area make me nervous.

If you look carefully, you can see a thin channel between the plastic-OLED display and the aperture.

The folding screen could be better for video
An unexpected advantage of the Razr’s chin, the plastic bit that sticks to the bottom of the phone, is to use as a handle while you are watching a video.
But the Razr beanpole dimensions, which in the form of a 21:9 aspect ratio, that Motorola cinema vision, the calling unit does not seem to be contractually complement each video I watched. The screen is so narrow top to bottom, you pretty much have to watch everything in landscape mode. < p>Pinch and you might lose the top and bottom of the frame. Let it be and you can see big black bars on the side. Hope for the best, and the image could be perfect to harvest.
Samsung Galaxy its own craze has wrinkles in the form of the fat score that sticks in your video like a sore thumb. Since it is on a page that is a consolation, it is that it is not in the way of the action.

The wrinkles are more regular dimensions make it easier to fill the screen, no matter how you hold it.

Razr-camera system is more elegant, but to work to you less and less
The Galaxy Fold brings you six high-Power cameras to produce excellent images no matter what screen you use. That would be good too. To do if Samsung had chosen a different design, perhaps you with less expensive lenses.
Motorola has the opposite problem. There is only one real camera, which means there are no Tele-or wide-angle function that you would expect from a premium phone. The flap has both of these, plus his main camera, and three more front-facing sensors in addition to. Yes, there is a time-of-flight-sensor (ToF), but for low-light photography, not for the detection of a new focal length.
Back to the Razr, its 16-megapixel camera lives just below the small external screen and is the main sensor for all your photos. You will find a 5-megapixel lens, when you flip open the Razr, but it is intended for video calls (which you can also support it from the camera when the phone is closed, as as long as you derive it from the inside of the screen).
I haven’t had a chance to test the camera quality, but keep a close eye on this when the review unit comes in.

The only Razr camera all the photos you need to take.

Galaxy wrinkles already profits on extras
Samsung’s foldable phone is a premium device that seeks the same from the Galaxy Note 10 Plus and the rest of his top-tier mobile phones.
in addition to a larger selection of cameras, it offers a larger screen-area, high-Power processor (Snapdragon 855 versus 710) and wireless charging on the back. They are also twice received the Razr’s internal memory and RAM. In Korea, and the United Kingdom, the wrinkle also comes with 5G support.

The Galaxy twice the internal storage and RAM has wrinkles, and free of charge wireless devices on the back.

Razr battery life is always promises still in the air
Motorola that the Razr’s battery life lasts you all day, and I’m extremely curious to see how well it actually does. This is because the capacity adds up to just 2,500 mAh. For comparison, the Google Pixel 4, the mediocre battery performance, tops Razr at 2,800 mAh.
suspect Even more, the batteries are divided between the two halves of the folding mobile phone. This device is similar in the hand, but all things being equal, a battery is more efficient than two. We saw the same low-than-expected performance with the Galaxy fold as well as (4,380 mAh).
On the other hand, the Razr is also a smaller device with a much less screen to cover the surface, on the inner and outer displays, and midtier Snapdragon processor, which we have discussed above, consumes less energy in processing at slower speeds than the most advanced model.

The Razr is a smaller phone with a smaller battery capacity. Is that enough?

So, what now?
I have completely reworked the Galaxy fold (twice!) and I have a whole bunch of hours with the Motorola Razr, but this is breaking is only the beginning of the comparison of these two pioneering foldable mobile phones.
the next step is the review of the Razr is as soon as I fold it into my already stretched to the hands, and then to test the cameras, screen, sturdiness, and the rest against the Galaxy. Since the Razr will not ship until sometime in January, it is likely that many questions remain open for some time.
Until then, read on as it is, use to see the foldable Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy folds, and the peer behind the curtain, how and why Motorola has made the foldable Razr. It’s been a long, strange year for foldable Smartphones, and with these two devices, we are finally on our way.
