Microsoft is ditching Cortana for Android and iOS in certain markets
Cortana was once positioned as a serious competitor to Amazon, Alexa and Google wizard, but these days it feels more like a Windows add-on and now the Cortana app for Android and iOS disappear in certain regions.
As per a new support article, the app will not be available in certain countries outside of the United States, after January 31, at which point it is rolled into the Microsoft Office 365 apps.
Microsoft told The Verge that the stand-alone Cortana app is to be dropped in the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Mexico, Spain, China, and India, as it looks to continue to Cortana “as helpful as possible”.
“We are the Integration of Cortana deeper into your Microsoft 365 productivity apps,” said Microsoft in a statement. “And part of this evolution includes the termination of support for the Cortana mobile app on Android and iOS.”

The news was not a complete surprise, as Microsoft has removed the digital assistant from its launcher app on Android, to integrate as it moves better Alexa in its products.
Back in January, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella admitted that he’s not Cortana sees as a direct rival to the likes of Alexa and Google assistant, so that these new developments are really only the continuation.
Rival digital assistants continue to be Packed in a growing number of devices now, such as Cortana, apparently, retreats to Windows and Microsoft applications.
