iOS-13: How to customize your iMessage profile

Starting with iOS 13, you can automatically transfer your preferred name and photo (or Memoji) to other iOS users, if you chat with them in the messaging app—though you can choose to use, whether you do or not. Not only does this option let your friends and contacts see you as you you want to see it, but it eradicates some tedious steps to add new people to your contacts app.

Here is how to do it.

How to get a custom name and photo through the messaging app

You can this app on the news, which is super convenient if you want to share your photos on the fly. You will have to do a little more leg work for the first time set up (this is what we focus on here), but it is also much easier after that.

  3. Press the three dots for more options in the upper-right corner.

  5. At the bottom of the interface, you click the pop-up that says edit name and photo. Press it.

  7. Another screen will pop-up that says Share your name and your photo with friends. At the bottom, press the Select Name and photo.

  9. In the next menu, finally, you can actually choose your name and photo. First, you fill the two slots for your first and last name.

Here you have a few options. At the top, you will see large circular icons for the various options, and you can scroll from the right hand side to see more. If you already have a Memoji or set your own photo in the contacts app, you will see the options first, followed by an option to simply use your initials. If you see something you like, press Next. As soon as you have to scroll through all of these icons, you will see that one of the circles says “View More”, and you can use that to Memoji (and Animoji), photos and name of slot machines all from the same interface. At this point, press the contacts if you just want to have this information to share with your mutual contacts. iOS automatically sends the name and the photo to the contact, the next time you chat.

Press Always ask if you want to ask iOS to whether you should send your updated name and photo to a contact. If you select this Option, if you the next time you send a message to a person after you have changed your information, you will see a menu at the top of the chat thread to read “Share your name and your photo?”—along with a preview of your name and photo. Press the small to Share command prompt, and iOS will immediately you send your information.

These are the steps that you must take to make changes after the initial setup. 

If you already see a Memoji, you should, it’s under “suggestions”. Press it and skip to step 5. It is super easy to use, and you exchange photos for your profile. Here’s how.

If you decide you don’t want to send with iOS, your name and photo, to switch your contacts, it is easy to the function.

How do you make your profile via the settings app

Prefer the “long way”? You can also create your custom name and photo through the app “settings”. You open the settings app, press the messages, and then press the Share the name and photo, around half-way through the interface.
