Qualcomm’s next-gen-Snapdragon-865 smartphone chip supports 5G, certainly. Below is a high-level overview of the Snapdragon-865, which are manufactured on a 7nm process as its predecessors. (The 865 uses TSMC is 7nm, while the 765 is manufactured on Samsung-7nm process.) Qualcomm promises the cryo 585 CPU provides more than 25 percent more performance than the processor inside the older Snapdragon-855, as well as 25 percent more energy-efficiency. The cryo-core uses what one might call a BIG-big-little architecture, with an upclocked “prime” core three “performance” cores and four “efficiency” cores to handle low-power tasks.

Qualcomm says the Adreno 650 GPU to deliver 25 percent faster graphics rendering, with 35 percent energy savings over the Adreno 640. The latter number is optimized for the 90 frames per second, not 60. The Hexagon-698, the dedicated AI processor, delivering 4 times the power of the Hexagon 690, the first “conversion” of the digital-signal-processor for the AI.

While the next-gen 5G technology was a controversial issue in the year 2019, it looks much more profitable for 2020, as you move the two carriers and semiconductor manufacturers in the direction of the target line.
