While Amazon keeps it quiet, some of the ebooks bought on the Kindle Store can be loaned to your friends. Just hope that they’ll return the favor from time to time!

Manybooks has free downloads of classic and contemporary titles.

Manybooks comes by its name honestly. There are more than 50,000 free ebooks here, ranging from public-domain titles offered by independent and lesser-known contemporary authors.

The site has an easy-to-navigate tiled interface that allows it, you can explore a dozen of popular genres. There is also a regularly updated “editor’s choice” selection of books and a section of the Trend title. If you are overwhelmed by the options, start with the editorial “the Ultimate guide to Our most Popular Free eBooks”, which offers a detailed overview of the classic public domain books according to genre, including such favorites as Jane Eyre, The adventures of Sherlock Holmes and war of the worlds.

Each book record contains information, a summary of the plot, and a text excerpt. These are accessible for everyone to read, but you need to sign up for an account download and register the book itself. After you need to click the download link you just select the appropriate format, the Manybooks save as your preferred option in your profile, if you already do so, if they are registered.

DigiLibraries has a simple, if not exciting, a Website with 30,000 free E-books in Kindle formats.

DigiLibraries is an online book catalog with around 30,000 ebooks in the Kindle Format, all of them free. Books are sorted into dozens of categories and sub-categories, and the selection title is expected to be heavy on the public domain. The page won’t win any design awards, but everything is clearly arranged. You can select from a list of genres in the left sidebar, most of which are open to the sub-genre choices. A well-maintained selection of popular and new ebooks are featured prominently in the center of the home page with cover photos.

Each book entry contains a text excerpt and three download formats: ePub, PDF, and Mobi. The site limits you to 50 downloads per day, that should be enough for all but the most voracious reader.

If you don’t subscribe via a library card or your library, Overdrive, Book-Lending is a great alternative. The site utilizes Amazon’s Kindle lending to correspond to feature lenders with borrowers.

To borrow if you want, a book, press the giant green button, and you are looking for a specific title search or last requests.
