‘Half-Life: Alyx’ almost 1 million VR-user-steam – Engadget

Half gave it appears-Life: Alyx, in the VR-gaming a serious boost. the Road to VR used to calculate historical data and a direct valve-data to the user’s Steam added to almost 950,000 VR headsets in April — a huge spike on March. While the Steam info does not say how many of those were new (it is possible, some have just been connected to steam for the first time), it is clear Alyx asked inspired SteamVR acceptance to a level not seen.
The data also provides some insights into what headsets people were using. The biggest beneficiary was, apparently, the Oculus Quest, whose share more than doubled in April. Recently the possibility to use the search, such as a PC headset can have, has been added to encourage gamers before Alyx‘s 23. March start. Valve Index-headset have to see more adoption, but not nearly as much. While it is touted as the ideal headset for Alyx, its high price has often been seen as a hurdle. Most of the players are either Oculus (44.6%) or HTC (30.3 percent) headsets.
While this could help VR games, the data still suggests it’s a long way to go before the technology is commonplace among Steam users. Even with 2.7 million connected to the headset, only 1.9 percent of Steam users, a VR-headset. the Alyx can track developers to write more advanced VR — if she does, though, it will not transform the market overnight.
