Galaxy Z-Flip, do not recommend 3 months later: Still love it, still – CNET

Last year, when she told me about all the things that would happen in 2020, I would shake my head with disbelief. This includes the fact that I would like to Galaxy Z Flip foldable mobile phone. When it launched in February, I was skeptical, because only a year earlier, Galaxy wrinkle reviewer units had a number of questions. Then the Motorola Razr was still there. It started before the Flip and even though it was more expensive and had less impressive specs, I found his approach to foldable design more attractive.

Fast forward to now, and the Galaxy Z-Flip has won me. I use it like a normal phone, it seems silly to say but one of my biggest strikes against the foldable mobile phone is not so far, as they hold up to real use. First of all, I was protective over the phone; now I’m less careful, and it is still holds.

Most of all, the Galaxy Z Flip is fun, and that is something I can’t say about many phones. Folding and unfolding, it is as pleasant as it was the first time I did it. Close hazards the phone down to end a call, satisfaction it brings to me that I not a iPhone 11 Pro or Pixel-4. And the opening with a whip-like flip of my wrist I feel like a badass.

I don’t know, the Galaxy Z Flip is the perfect phone or the most powerful. It’s not the best camera or battery life. It is ridiculously expensive. And yet I can’t stop using it. After three months, the Galaxy Z will Flip to a value of $1,380 is? Yes. The high price reflects that it is a phone, the wrinkles are physically still in the middle. Should you pay $1,380 for this phone? Not. But for those who like to flirt with the Wild West of mobile design, the Z-Flip offers a lot.

Z-Flip is a beautiful, but cursed,-display

I love and hate this ad. If it is clean, the tall narrow screen is amazing and alive. Videos look excellent. Of the 21.9:9 aspect ratio is also very wide, so there are black bars on the sides of most videos. I saw widescreen movies like The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, however, and customize the display incredibly well.

But once in a while, the plastic polymer coating in the path came up on the screen the beauty, especially when there is finger prints on the screen, what is the coating to win seems to be endless. If I wipe off dirt, do not clean with my T-shirt sleeves, they come off as easy as a phone without a plastic polymer.

Then there is the kink. Ah, the fold. One thing that I noticed after three months of using it, that I feel physically the fold constantly with my fingers. The Z-Flip’s fold cross through the center of the screen and when I scroll through apps such as Instagram or Twitter, my finger goes over it, like a car rolling over a seam in a concrete driveway. But this does not, in particular, bug me because it is a horizontal fold instead of the vertical you can Fold on the Galaxy, I actually see less. To me, the wrinkle as the background music in a restaurant. I remember it but forget it after a while. Just like how I used to be notches on cell phones, I’m now used to the fold.

It brings me an endless amount of joy, how small the mobile phone is closed. I never hesitate to take it with me, because it is the driving performance vary a great plug-in cards (although within women’s pockets can). The Z-Flip open a cell phone as large as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, if a skinner version.

I like to open the phone to use it, since I’m rather picky about what I do. The only time this feels boring messaging, I have to open the phone, read a text and answer and then I close it. When I start a different answer, I have the process over. I would be so happy if I could respond to messages from the outside have display even just with my voice,

in the course of time, I stopped, close the phone closed, as much and rather than open in a 90-degree angle. This made it look like a mini-laptop, and it meant I could open a message thread, or mindlessly scrolling, Instagram or Twitter. Samsung calls this half-fold position, Flex mode, and it is excellent for shooting vertical Videos. To be honest, I didn’t expect, you use the Z-Flip as much as a video camera, but in the Flex mode, the phone to a tripod, that is to say, I had more options where I could get the perfect shot, than a regular phone.

In the next version of the Z-Flip, I hope, that Samsung includes the video capture aspect. There are rumors that the Galaxy Z Flip 2 is a third external view. If that turns out to be true, it is an opportunity to rotate here to rotate Z in the ultimate phone for recording video. Samsung would need to have the third camera think identical to the main one, but rotate it 90 degrees (that Motorola, A action). So, if the phone is in the Flex mode it can, vertical video with two cameras and a horizontal video with the third camera.

Flex mode also has to adapt a software component, where apps, to the L-shaped position. But only a few apps use, and even then, it feels restricted. The gallery app, for example, presents photographs on the top half and the controls for the navigation on the bottom. But when I go to edit a photo, the image moves from the top half of the screen in the middle. Why don’t you hold it at the upper part of the screen and use the bottom half to make changes?

With Android 10, I ca two apps display in a split screen, what I did for the Zoom-meetings (on the top), and E-Mail (on the bottom). It is a nice way to use the device without having to hold it. But again, the functionality is limited.

One of the things I enjoy the most about the positioning of the Z-Flip in different angles, that I can fit the phone around my face when I’m talking on a call, instead of having it be flat. It is the beginning of the 2000s, and I enjoy it almost as much as end a call by closing the phone shut off.

The itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie outdoor display

The tiny pill-shaped display on the phone, the exterior is very cool and minimalist, but it is also kind of useless. I enjoy it, the time and battery status, and to skip Songs in Spotify. But the display switches to read quickly to notifications, and I can’t find a setting to adjust that.

stop taking selfies with it a strange experience. The display becomes the viewfinder and enables the use of cameras in the outdoor area for higher resolution images, but the preview on the screen is misleading, because it is not in the actual design of the photos.

The usefulness of the outside shows a foldable mobile phones varies. The man tried on the Galaxy wrinkles, too much to do and feels cramped. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip-screen is terrible simple. The Motorola Razr hits the sweet spot between the two.

While I understand that manufacturers of mobile phones need to maintain a balance between the size and the use of the outdoor displays, the Z-Flip still can be improved. Samsung go, you could route the Motorola and the screen is a touch bigger, or enable the notifications are displayed more. It also takes some skills, to allow users to take basic actions with notifications.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: 3 months later, I can’t stop…

dust, dirt, and durability

If the Z-start Flip, there were concerns about its flexible display and long-lasting durability. After three months of regular use, I don’t see a single scratch or nick on the screen (although again, there are a lot of spots). The body has a small scratch, when the phone slipped off my Desk and onto the floor. While we are on the topic, I have not dropped the phone, but it has fallen by several times. The exterior cladding is incredibly slippery and there were many times when I leave it on a counter or table and come back to find it on the ground because it slipped.

When closed, there is an air gap between the two halves of the screen. The only drawback I’ve noticed is that it is dust and lint can collect on the display. Unlike the review units of the Galaxy fold, I had no problems with dirt or dust under the screen or in the hinge mechanism.

My biggest takeaway when it comes to durability, I can use it like a regular old smartphone. I don’t think so, baby this phone, or worry that I might. Daily use over months and years, the true test of its durability is.

in the Last year, performance is good in use

In terms of performance, with the Z-Flip is like a Samsung Galaxy S10E. Both are at the top of the Samsung-spec-heap; the title to the equally-priced Galaxy S20 Ultra. But I never had the feeling of being limited by the performance of the phone. Animations are smooth and apps launch quickly. I wonder what is the lifespan of the phone in terms of software support, however.

The battery, which is mediocre, perhaps the biggest compromise when compared to a normal phone. I have barely a day, and one in the late afternoon is typical. It’s not terrible, but it has a charge of dinner time.

Galaxy S10 cameras on the Galaxy Z Flip

In terms of cameras, I’m not going in depth on this (only you can check the original review for info). In short, the cameras are good, but not great. The S10 camera system with a uw camera (less resolution than the S10) and a main is essentially a wide-angle camera, a dual-aperture. Photo and video image quality deserves a solid B compared to A+ with the Google-Pixel-4 or the iPhone 11 Pro.

In use, the camera always had chops for the recording of photos or Videos in any situation. Heck, there’s even a night mode on this puppy. Check out the video below entirely of footage shot on the Galaxy Z Flip.

At the end of the day, I think there is a lot to admire about the Galaxy Z-Flip, but for most people, it is still far more of an experiment than a reliable daily driver. That said, if you want the cutting edge, warts and all, worth it definitely, it is in a Shop (if we do it again), or waiting until it goes on sale.
