Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk introduces the cyber truck at the Tesla design studio in Hawthorne, California. The much-hyped unveiling of the company’s electric pickup truck and it went off script Thursday morning when a supposedly impenetrable window pane was smashed twice by a large metal ball.

Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk revealed his company’s all-electric “cyber truck” on Thursday, touting its versatility and toughness. But the truck’s unique design — it follows an angle from the front bumper to the top of the windshield, for example, some of Tesla threw fans for a loop.

And to show during a demonstration, the truck’s “armor glass” smashed in the window.

In a typical Tesla style, the unveiling in Los Angeles included a countdown clock, and an auditorium full of fans and journalists. The truck drove onto the stage, through the blowing of the artificial smoke, and the music drummed through the speakers. On the periphery, pyrotechnic flame rose, as the vehicle stopped in front of a graffiti-style cyber truck graphics, the stark black and white.

Musk had teased several of the design elements in the run-up to the event, citing influences from Bladerunner, the James Bond Film The spy who Loved Me. Both films forms vehicles presented with a sharply angled front end and overall wedge — a concept for car design, has been seen as a futuristic and aerodynamic since Alfa Romeo, the knife like Carabo concept car created in the year 1968. Others followed, such as Lamborghini Countach angular and the Lotus Esprit, was of which in a amphibious vehicle for Roger Moore, James Bond — a car that musk is purchased in the year 2013.

The cyber truck also looks significantly different from the truck-concept improvised by Tesla-owner Simone Giertz — won fans earlier this year, if you hacked off the rear roof of the new Tesla Model 3, which transforms the sedan into a load.

Giertz, who was at the Tesla event, said the cyber truck,” I have no idea what I think about it. Need to sleep.”

On Friday, she elaborated a little: “I’ve slept now, but my facial expression is still the same. I think I might have chronic shocked #cyber truck face get.”

critics called it a doorstop, or a very ugly DeLorean or something that could be seen in an old vector graphics video game. But the truck also had seem to be his advocate, the, the Cretaceous, until the first negative comments to the cyber truck look fat.

“said Really disappointed by my colleagues, so many pubs, the dismissal of the cyber truck because it looks weird,” Roadshow Editor-in-Chief Tim Stevens via Twitter. He added: “Many of these colleagues spent complained the entire week that the industry is churning, samey, half-hearted crossover SUVs. I’m weird about anonymous.”

Twitter user David Wu compared to a stealth fighter: “The F35 of pickup trucks. Don’t think my mind has always been blown up like this before.”

Tesla says the cyber truck drives better than most sports cars and is more useful than a normal truck. From a standing start, the truck maxed-out version of the car accelerates to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, the company said. And, at least on paper, the pairing of electric motors, known for their high torque output with a truck, a slam seems-dunk concept.

But pickup trucks, like most cars, sold on image. And both Tesla and Musk have always played again, until the new electric truck, the robustness is.

“you want a truck that is really hard? Not a fake tough?” Musk asked the crowd on Thursday evening. He also said that Tesla developed the exterior of the cyber truck from a stainless steel alloy, of his company. “We are told with the same alloy in the space-ship rocket,” musk on his SpaceX project.

Then it went off the track with the “Tesla armor glass” test of strength.

was left of A metal ball falling on a leaf, what musk described as a “regular glass of the car,” leaving a long crack.

a sheet of the Tesla ‘ s glass, the metal ball up to a height of about 10 feet and fell again. The “armor of glass” remained intact. But Musk is not yet finished — he turned the ball over, the Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen, who previously met the truck doors to be hammer with a proposal as to its durability.

“Franz, you could try and break the glass, please?” Musk said.

“are you sure?” von Holzhausen asked.

Without taking into account a lot of take-up effects, the whirled of Holzhausen the ball to Tesla’s brand-new truck — a nasty looking spider’s web of splintered and dented glass.

“Well said,” Musk later. “That was maybe a little too hard.”

not by Staring at the ruined window, his hand on his chin, musk added, “It is. This is the plus side.”

asked by Holzhausen, whether you should try the rear window. Musk agreed, and soon stood in front of two pock-marked window for the rest of the carefully staged event.

“Not bad,” musk, summed up part of the night, and adds, “room for improvement.”

The cyber truck has six seats and a load surface (or “vault,” as Tesla calls it), which is 6 1/2 feet long. His tailgate is also a ramp for the rolling stock, or vehicles, in the bed. The truck is 231.7 cm (19.3 feet) long, almost 80 cm wide and 75 cm high. Tesla lists its maximum range to more than 500 miles.

The truck will be offered in a wide range of driving range and weight capacity, depending on the engine power of the vehicle. While the basic single-engine truck would have a range of around 250 kilometers and a tow rating of 7,500 pounds with rear-wheel drive, three-motor all-wheel-drive version for double the range and be capable of towing up to 14,000 pounds, Tesla

the starting price for The cyber truck is $39,900. In most of the high-Power version, it would cost $69,900. The company is taking pre-orders now, with a $100 Deposit for a vehicle is reserved, that Tesla says is on the market in about two years./p>

Perhaps the uncertainty about the new design reflects that, Tesla shares fell over night and continued to dip on Friday around 6% at noon ET. But as investors Business Daily notes,” the Tesla share price has Since its June 3 low, doubled.”
