Chris Monroe/CNET

The smart display industry has flourished in the past year, with the Amazon Echo card 8 and  warsGoogle-Nest-stroke (formerly Google Home Hub) at the top of the screen. It makes sense, why it’s almost a dozen smart displays on the market: you are a dream-team from the always-listening voice support of a smart speaker and a touch screen for watching videos, controlling list your home devices, add things to your to-do, and more. The Google-Nest-stroke Max, which is the latest one we tested, adds in a face-tracking camera, which can be displayed in the personalized bits of information, if it is you.

If you are looking to upgrade your current speakers, or you just start your smart home and you find the touchscreen responsive, here are the best smart displays are available.

you can often find the Nest Hub (used to be called the Google homepage Hub) on sale for $100 or less, so that it is a cost-effective entry point for the category. It is also the smartest and best overall, is what the more favourable price even more attractive.

thanks to the integrated Google Assistant, the Nest Hub responds to all of the same voice commands as the Google-Home-Mini-smart-speaker. The touch screen is a little small, 7-inch, but the adaptive brightness makes images look particularly great. Google will also customize a slide show of family pics as your screen saver.

you can also screen videos from your living room or any other room and control your smart home devices such as your smart doorbell, with the intuitive control panel. In contrast to most other smart displays (and unlike its new big brother, the Nest Hub Max), the Nest-a Hub, not a camera, but that would be a bonus, if you have privacy concerns and want to the table on their night. The colorful fabric design allows the device, to mix everywhere, although the touch screen comes in particularly handy when you step-by-step help by a recipe in the kitchen.

With the map 8, Amazon’s “Alexa” to respond to your voice control and voice commands, and you can get the screen to play games, recipes, movies, and Prime Video Trailer, control your smart home and more. The 8-inch screen is not small enough to stay out of the way, but large enough that you have to squint. Plus, it contains a physical camera shutter for privacy.

in addition to the usual tricks, the Amazon contain his last sunrise alarm clock function which will help ease you out of your sleep with a screen that starts getting brighter 15 minutes before your scheduled wake-up time. You can watch new how-to-videos or make a video call with a tip.

Google Assistant still makes better use of the touch screen as the Amazon — in particular, the cooking instructions and smart-home controls are better-but the Echo Show 8 is close enough, if you ‘ invested re already in Alexa, and it actually has a camera for video Chats, the the Nest Hub. In short, the card 8 the best smart display is Amazon.

If you want a 10-inch touch screen, powered by Google wizard, the Lenovo Smart Display looks elegant and has the same smarts as the Nest Hub. Lenovo offers two different models: the 10-inch version and an 8-inch model for $85. The 10-inch smart display has a bamboo back, particularly well-suited for the kitchen.

The Lenovo Smart Display was actually the first smart integrated screen debut with Google Assistant, and it is still one of the best. You still get the Google-smart-home-control-panels, and recipe guide, and the Lenovo display has a camera for video calls and a physical shutter button to cover it, if you want privacy.

If you want to, a smart display, the room can be used as a speaker, with audio-quality, for a party, look no further than the JBL Show at this Link. As the Lenovo-Smart-Display it has integrated Google Assistant, and the same easy interface as the Lenovo model and the Nest Hub. It is currently on sale at Best Buy for $100, although it is only an 8-inch screen and the design is a little clunky.

however, it Still has all the same great touchscreen functionality as the other Google-Assistant-models and when you start to play music, the JBL-Link-shiny the view. The sound quality is a little bass heavy, but it is loud and full enough to get a room rockin’.

The rest

Google’s Nest stroke Max: At $229, the Nest stroke Max ups the Google Assistant in the Display size from 7 to 10 inches and it offers better sound quality than before. The real story, however, it is a demanding camera, to identify movements and gestures, and faces, in order to show you personalized information on the screen. It is an impressive combination of hardware and software, but it comes with privacy. For most people, we think that the original camera-free Nest Hub is a lot closer to the smart-display-sweet-spot.

Amazon Echo-Show 5: The Echo Show, 5 is the cheapest of Amazon’s shows, and it has most of the perks of the card 8. The resolution is lower than the card 8, and the screen is smaller. But it will take a tap-to-snooze alarm function, which makes it perfect for a bedside alarm clock. Its sound quality is not close, though, in comparison to its larger siblings.

Amazon Echo Show (2. gen): The original Echo-Show helped to popularize the smart display back in the year 2017, and the current second Generation of Show, improved it in every way with better design, sound quality, and a useful screen. It is a good premium to the attractive $90 entry point of the Echo-Show 5. The second Generation, the Show has great sound quality and a 10-inch screen. The touch screen is just not as useful as comparable models with Google Assistant.

Facebook Portal and Portal Plus: The $149 Facebook Portal, and the $249-Portal as well as a large video-calls. You can track and follow the individual in the frame so you can move freely as you speak. Otherwise, you have a built-in Alexa-in, but they are not as smart as the rest. And of course, Facebook has faced recently, the numerous privacy scandals, so put one of his cameras in your house makes a big leap of faith.

Lenovo Smart Clock: This $50 smart alarm, most of the functionality of smart trims shows. There is no camera and you can’t see videos. You can customize the alarms, and scroll through the screens with the weather, and commuting info. Thanks to the last update, you can also with personal photos and the Smart watch to scroll through selected albums from Google photos as a screen saver. It is sweet and specially for your bedside table, but it is an Upgrade alarm is longer than an entire smart display.

The battle for the best smart-display: Google-Home-Hub…

LG WK9: LG smart display sounds great, has a camera and has the same Google Assistant smarts than the other third party. It originally cost $300, much too much, but now you can regularly find it for less. Still, the audio doesn’t sound quite as good as the JBL-Link Display, and the 8-inch screen is surrounded by an ugly facade. The WK9 not distinguish itself enough to be worth careful consideration.
