Acer Aspire 5, 15.6" Full-HD-IPS-Display, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 3 Graphics, 4GB DDR4, 128GB SS...

One of the best laptop deals of Amazon Prime day is still a tempting buy at $315. This surprisingly slim for Acer Aspire one 5 comes with a 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display, a good-enough AMD Ryzen 3 3200U-CPU and a integrated Radeon Vega 3 graphics core in the position play of light (“the light” is the key word). You need to be found for a meager 128 GB of SSD memory and only 4GB of RAM, however, and in retrospect, on this particular A515-43-R19L system, we have similar laptops, the Acer Aspire 5-line (such as the Core i5-packing A515-54-51DJ) had significantly better battery life.

Acer Aspire 5 A515-54-51DJ

acer aspire 5 51dj main

A step-up model, the AMD-powered Aspire 5 currently topping our list of the best bargain prices laptops, this particular configuration (which we recently reviewed) is significantly more expensive at about $500, but it is an impressive value if you are looking for a little more productivity power.

A highlight feature of this model is its quad-core core i5 processor. We found it a bit sluggish compared to some of its similar competitors for CPU-intensive tasks (due to thermal throttling), but hey, we’re still talking of a quad-core CPU in a $500 laptop.  We also liked its spacious 8GB of RAM for smooth multi-tasking performance and an exceptionally spacious, 256GB SSD, versus the skimpier 128GB drive in the cheaper model.

As with other newer Aspire 5 laptop, the Core i5 model, the feel is nice and slim and trim, and almost all day battery life is right on the money.

Lenovo Flex 14 81SS000DUS

lenovo flex 14 81ss000dus

The Lenovo Flex 14 81SS000DUS is priced a little over our maximum, but we wanted to mention it anyway since what’s inside: a Ryzen 5 Per 3500U processor. The AMD CPU is a little hard to find—Lenovo is one of the few companies with Ryzen mobile CPUs so far. AMD claims that the Ryzen 5 Per 3500U is faster than the Intel Core i5-8250U, a solid CPU, the easily mainstream productivity.

What not, the Ryzen chip, that of the comparable Intel chip is a built-in Vega-GPU, which should be a lot stronger than the Intel UHD 620 graphics that comes with the Core i5-8250U. We will not know until we test it, but AMD claims its Vega-in graphics core offers more performance for your money.

The configuration is in General good, with generous RAM (12 GB is a rare treat) and storage, as well as an included stylus for the touch screen. This is a 360-degree convertible, so you can use it like a clamshell laptop, tablet, or Notebook screen Film. The weight is reasonable, and while the display resolution is a bit shy of 1080p, we’ve seen worse. We noticed that there is no ethernet, but if all you are using is Wi-Fi there is a small loss.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 Per 3500U

memory: 12 GB DDR4-RAM

storage: 256 GB NVMe SSD

Display: 14-inch diagonal width, 1440 x 900 touch screen

graphics: Radeon Vega 8 graphics

HP Pavilion 15

hp pavilion 15 1

There is a sliver that is about $500, but the HP Pavilion 15 is a solid investment due to its price tag. Its quad-core Intel core i5-8250U is a proven workhorse for web-browsing and producti city, and will also hold their own when it comes to more CPU-intensive tasks such as video encoding. You also get the 8GB of RAM, you should run multiple programs at the same time, without speed limits. The USB-C connector is ideal for connecting the latest external hard drives and the peripherals, and there’s even an ethernet port for wired networking. Not to forget the spacious Full-HD (1920 x 1080) display, which happens to be just a touch screen.

Now, the disadvantages. Slim, although it will only 0.78 inches, this version of the HP Pavilion 15-tips the scales at almost four and a quarter pounds, so you definitely feel it in your backpack. Also, the integrated graphics core means that you are limited to the simplest of games, such as Minesweeper and Sudoku. (To be fair, you should not expect to find, a quad-core laptop with a discrete graphics card in this price class.) Finally, the spin momentum is not the end of the hard drive nearly full as a solid-state model, but at least its 1-TB-storage is big enough for quite a large photo or music collection.

CPU: Quad-core Intel core i5-8250U

memory: 8 GB DDR4-RAM

storage: 1 TB HDD

Display: 15.6-inch full-HD (1920×1080) IPS touch screen

Lenovo Ideapad L340 (81LK00HDUS)

lenovo ideapad l340 81lk00hdus

Yes, the 15-inch Lenovo gaming laptop is a few hundred dollars over our typical $500 ceiling, but look at what they have under the hood: quad-core, 9.-gen-Intel-processor, no slouch when it comes to CPU-intensive tasks; a positive spacious 512 GB solid-state drive storage, a small collection of games; and best of all, a discrete Nvidia graphics card, the crank butter delicate 1080p graphics, as soon as you fiddle with your graphics settings. The 8 GB storage offers enough space for multitasking, and you can connect external storage for additional games with the fast USB-C port. Yes, the Lenovo is almost an inch thick, and it tips the scales at a hair under five pounds, but this is actually pretty good as far as gaming laptops go.

CPU: Quad-core Intel core i5-9300H

memory: 8 GB DDR4-RAM

storage: 512-GB-SSD

Display: 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display

Lenovo L340-15API

lenovo l340 15api

The 15-inch Lenovo packs in some solid mainstream HP due to its competitive price tag, but we have a couple of reservations. We focus on the good first, starting with a dual-core AMD processor that is more than up to such a day-to-day computing tasks such as web browsing and Office. You also get some multi-tasking chops thanks to the installed 8 GB of RAM, while the USB-C port to enable the connection of fast external storage drive. And not to forget, the spacious 15.6-inch full-HD display. So far, So good.

Not a Windows 10 laptop, the cost is $380 comes without compromises, however, and the Lenovo has its fair share. You take the 1 TB hard drive, a traditional spinning model of the pep is missing, you can see in the solid Phase—storage and to add insult to injury, the disk rotates with a pokey 5,400 rpm, which means you can expect Windows its sweet Start in the morning. This laptop is also almost an inch thick, and close to five pounds, so it’s more of a desktop replacement than something you want to throw in a backpack. We are also disappointed about the lack of a memory card reader.

One last point: This particular Lenovo comes with Windows 10 in the S mode, a stripped-down, performance-optimized version of Windows that only runs apps from the Windows Store. You can switch to the full version Windows 10 Pro for free (but remember, you can’t change your mind and go back to S-mode and later).

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200U

memory: 8GB RAM

storage: 1 TB hard drive (5,400 rpm)

Display: 1920 x 1080 full HD LCD Display

graphics: – Integrated AMD Radeon Vega 3

connectivity: A USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 type-A ports, HDMI, Wi-Fi-5 (802.11 ac), gigabit ethernet, Bluetooth,

Lenovo 330S-15IKB 81F5018EUS

lenovo 330s 15ikb 81f5018eus

Best, is the labelling of this budget Lenovo laptop as a budget option for students, and that sounds about right. 8. generation, dual-core-Intel-CPU-is not a hot rod, but it is more than enough for taking notes, conducting research on the web and the writing of the house work. The integrated graphic-core is good for some casual gaming (we’re not talking about chess here, Fornite), while the USB-C connector allow connection of the latest storage devices and peripherals. With a width of just 0.76 inch laptop, fits easily in a backpack.

as far as disadvantages, the Lenovo is a bit heavy at 4.12 pounds, and with only 4GB of RAM, it can chug start, if you have too many applications running at the same time. You also have to do with a tight-128GB SSD, which is fast, unless you stick to cloud storage, and a minimum of programs. The 15.6-inch display sounds spacious, but its 720p resolution means that you will see that some day light between the pixels. All that said, it is still tempting to look at that $280 price tag.

CPU: Dual-core Intel core i3-8130U

memory: 4 GB

storage: 128 GB SSD

Display: 15.6-inch diagonal width, 1366 x 768 resolution

graphics: Intel UHD graphics 620

connectivity: A USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 type-A ports, microSD card reader, HDMI, 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

Lenovo S340-15API 81QG0007US

lenovo 330s 15ikb 81f5018eus

This sleek and affordable Lenovo laptop, a lot of our favorite boxes. While we have not yet tested the exact configuration of the S340, we spent a lot of time with a similar version, and we can confirm, its slim and simple design, with its aluminum chassis, it somehow feels lighter than the listed 3.97 pounds.

on the Inside, we have a quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 CPU, the should although a cruise through the office and day to day desktop tasks, a luxurious 12 GB of RAM for smooth multitasking and built-in video card for games such as Minesweeper (not Fortnite). We generally opt for a peppy, solid-state drives rather than rotary hard drives in this particular S340 model, but you do, you get a whole terabyte of storage, so there’s that.

15-inch full-HD display has an IPS panel, which means that the screen appearance should be bright, even when viewed at an angle. The USB-C connector allows you to connect to a fast external storage drive. Check, Check, and checkity-check.

CPU: Quad-core AMD Ryzen 5 3500U

memory: 12 GB DDR4-RAM

storage: 1 TB HDD

Display: 1920 x 1080 full HD IPS display

graphics: – Integrated AMD Radeon Vega 8

connectivity: A USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 type-A ports, HDMI, 4-in-1 media card reader, Wi-Fi-5 (802.11 ac), Bluetooth

Microsoft Surface Go (4GB/64GB)

Microsoft Surface the old-primary
Go

You could argue the surface is a tablet rather than a laptop, but if you add the optional keyboard, it is a nice little productivity of the machine at an affordable price. The Windows 10 S runs, they are Windows productivity on a lighter Note, so it won’t weigh you down in performance (but you are limited to Windows Store apps).

We reviewed the High-end surface to Go with more memory and better storage, but that’s not the budget. The entry-level model is only $400 and the $99 black-type-cover you have is the squeaking in right under $500 total.

Budget laptops: The features that matter

Based on the current top-selling-budget-laptops on Amazon and Best Buy, here is what you should expect to see in the main components:

CPU: Huzzah! Now, the Intel 9-gen-mobile-CPUs are here, we begin to see discounted laptops with perfectly good 8.-gen parts in them. Look in particular for the Core i5-8250U, a quad-core processor that can skillfully juggle mainstream tasks. To see the bargain-basement price-points, but they are still more in the 7. Generation, dual-core Intel Core processors and a pinch of AMD’s older mobile CPUs. These older AMD-prone parts to perform poorly compared to their Intel rivals, so manage your expectations (and stick to basic it requirements).

memory: do you see 4GB or 6GB of RAM, but our top picks are focused on the 8GB, which will give you a better capacity for running multiple applications or browser tabs at the same time.

storage: you will see a lot of hard drives, and some smaller capacity (128GB) SSD drives. If you are on a budget, a slow hard drive with a larger capacity, a better deal than a fast SSD, which got hardly any space for the OS and a few applications.

Display: the Display quality is an area where manufacturers often skimp on the price. Do your best to balance size with resolution. We are committed to a 14-inch or 15.6-inch display size, but a 13.3-inch display leads to a portable unit. An 11-inch display size is a compromise–scarce real estate for you to view whatever you’re using is. A HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels is enough for a 11-inch or 13-inch display, but starts to look grainier (though still usable) on 14-inch displays and up. Get Full HD (1920×1080) resolution, if you can. They are not spec to always see a maximum brightness, but we consider them as 250 nits, to an appropriate level. Anything less you restrict their ability to work in brighter environments (let alone outdoors). The angle of view could be limited, which is bearable, unless you need routinely, in order to share your screen.

graphics: Expected, integrated graphics, manage everyday images, but not games or other graphics-intensive tasks.

connectivity: Good news: The bulky laptops you see often in this price class have a lot of space for connectors. you should see USB-A ports, but note that this over the USB 2.0 specification the capability as such with the USB 3.0 or USB limited-3.1-specifications. You can’t see, USB-C, full HDMI or ethernet, but we are looking for models on these ports.

dimensions and weight: a Lot of cheap laptops are larger and heavier models. Anything over 3.5 pounds may not be a little what to wear you want, past the living room.

condition: Some cheap laptops are affordable, because they are “refurbished”—in other words, they are used. You are actually saving a tidy sum to go to the newly-created route, and you need not to worry, that they come to your front door with greasy fingerprints and a crack in the screen. They are usually cleaned, tested, and again by the manufacturer or dealer to like-new” condition, which means that you probably say a hard time, a refurbished item from a brand-new model. In fact, Amazon has its own “Renewed” – the program, with strict standards for the sale of refurbished products on the Website. Keep in mind, however, that refurbished laptops have a much shorter guarantee are usually considered to be new; think 90 days or so, instead of one or two years.

Know what you want and shop smart

According to the see what is popular among the cheap laptops, you should know enough to shop for themselves. Remember, your priorities, whether it be the display size, storage capacity, weight or more, and you should be able to find a good deal.
