the language assistant are a great way to interact with your home, ask you a short question, set a timer, or control your devices. The wizard knows about you, your family and other residents, the better it is able to help you.

with Today’s virtual assistants work great, but you have a big problem: you store your data in the cloud, the APIs to other companies allow to produce products to help the on the upper side, and of companies whose core business is the construction of profiles for your users, to serve ads and product suggestions.

The backbone of our houses must be one that holds the local data and APIs, enabling other companies to build. Innovation happens when many different people with many different backgrounds, many different experiments until we find something that sticks. This cannot be left to a single company.

we Recently came in contact with the Open Virtual Assistant Lab at Stanford University. In the last four years, you have a virtual assistant named almond. And it is a perfect match for the home wizard.

Mandel

the almond is an open, respecting the privacy of virtual assistants, is open source. With the almonds, run a virtual assistant at home that can tell you the news or the control of your home. It is powered by LUInet, a state-of-the-art neural network is developed at Stanford. And it now also works with the Home Assistant.

The almond-team has updated almond to it with the different device types in the Home Assistant and to allow almond to control them. In turn, we have the conversation-integration in Home Assistant to support almond updated, so that user, the conversation with the almonds over the surface.

almond-users is available today in the Home-Assistant 0.102. It requires almond-Server, the you to either install yourself, use the new almond-hatred.io add-on, or rely on almond Web, cloud version, hosted by Stanford. By default, the almond-Server on a cloud-version of LUInet, but it is possible to run it locally.

the almond is set up in a way so that their privacy is still preserved in part, is also running with LUInet in the cloud. This is possible because LUInet is responsible for the conversion of text into a program, whose details will be filled in locally by the almond-Server. For example, LUInet turn on the lights to convert “” in the code, the almond-Server understands. Only almond-Server is know, the lights, the user has to check how you and the context of how the text was taken.

Like the almond, in comparison to Google/Alexa

you’re probably wondering if the almond is not as good as Alexa or Google. And it is still not so good. However, it does not matter.

If you want to have a associate in your house, who knows everything about you, it must be one that takes care of the privacy. It must be one that is open. This is not negotiable.

almond oil has room for improvement. But it is open source, and to make the Home-Assistant community, we are working with the almond team better. You can help now:

almond collect sets that you want to use the devices in your home. We already have a number of basic sentences, but the more, the better. You can

you are also able to interpret train help LUInet directly by the instruction, as it sets in the training console.

Ada

the almond is not the whole story. Almond only works with text input and produces text as output. It does not have to with speech-to-text to receive input-text-to-speech to speak the answers. These technologies are out of scope for almond. But not outside the range for Home-Assistant! Home Assistant, a text-to-speech integration with different backends. In the Home-Assistant 0.102, we have the introduction of a new language-to-text integration as a complement to this.

we Now have almost all the parts for a voice assistant built-in home Assistant, and so we decided to finish it off by the introduction of a new project called Ada. Ada integrated hotword-detection and directs the functions of all the data on the different Integra, a full voice assistant experience.

overview of the architecture, how all the parts fit together.

Ada is still very much at the beginning. We work with you to improve it. If you want to know-how in this area and can help, please contact.

Ada is also considered to be hatred.io add-on. This means that you can connect a microphone and speaker in your Raspberry Pi and turn to hatred.io a full, privacy-focused, language-wizard.

to make it easier To the speech-to-text and text-to-speech integrations to your system, Nabu-Casa is the introduction of a new beta service offering for the speech-to-text and text-to-speech services home Assistant Cloud subscribers, powered by Azure Cognitive performance.

Can be a virtual assistant or private, if the parts run in the cloud?

With the Home-Assistant-we take care of the privacy and local taxes. We want to be able to work on home automation, which holds when there is no internet. Home automation is fast and reliable.

But we also want the privacy to access. A user should be able to have a private solution without a large server at home. The privacy should not be something reserved for the rich.

With the current approach, some things still run in the cloud, but the home of data and remains local. We bring more things on the ground, when the faster technology will become more accessible, or new projects that can help you with this.

We do not want to wait, you can integrate this until all parts are running 100% locally. We need to help, to see the future, we want to be.

What comes next?/h2>

With almond and Ada, we have to create the building blocks to the language assistant. Now it is time to use it, improve it, and surprise us by sharing the things that you will have it for you.
